The Weil Arcade building, a Tigard community cornerstone for over a century, was destroyed by fire in 2022. In response to the community’s desire for a vibrant, connected space, Weil Arcade reimagined the site as a food park. Miller Consulting Engineers provided structural engineering services for the project, including the design of a new covered patio structure, a restroom, and an entranceway wall. The existing footing at the site posed a challenge for the wall’s design, necessitating a new eccentric foundation footing to support the wall’s loads while accommodating site constraints.
Additionally, MCE provided structural solutions for a partial building improvement, reinforcing a masonry wall shared by a neighboring pharmacy and café. The original exterior wall sustained damage during the fire and required stabilization. The project also included various site improvements to enhance functionality and longevity.
