Currently Hiring:
Associate Structural Engineer I (3+ years experience and license)
As an Associate Structural Engineer I you will:
- Perform calculations, develop loading requirements, & create accurate & concise drawings
- Communicate effectively & professionally with senior engineers & clients regarding status of new & ongoing projects
- Pay attention to client expectations & scope adjustments, work closely with senior engineers
- Perform research & conduct field investigations
Qualifications/Competencies:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
- PE license & 3+ years of experience is required
- Preferred to have personal vehicle & the minimum required Oregon insurance for site visits
- Ability to generate creative solutions within existing limitations
- Balances team and individual responsibilities
- Contributes to positive team spirit

Alexander (Alex) James has been a valuable member of Miller Consulting Engineers (MCE) since 2021, after earning a Bachelor of Science in Civil engineering from Oregon State University. Alex is focused on delivering practical and cost-effective structural solutions tailored to the unique needs of his clients. His expertise spans a diverse range of projects, including exterior deck repairs, substation switchgear housing design, residential and commercial retaining walls, basement designs, and home additions/remodels.
He’s involved in various aspects of structural design, from creating detailed AutoCAD and Revit drawings to consulting with clients and contractors. He is dedicated to ensuring the highest quality projects through on-site evaluations, data collection, and close collaboration with local jurisdictions for permitting designs. Alex enjoys working closely with supervisors and team members, ensuring that every project meets rigorous standards of excellence.
Before joining Miller Consulting Engineers, Alex gained hands-on experience as a laborer in the construction industry. This experience provides him with invaluable insights into the fundamentals of building structures, enhancing his understanding of design from a practical perspective.
