Project Story

SIGNAGE

MCE provided structural engineering services for the support of 10' tall lettering at the Moda Center. The size of the lettering is unique in that the special variances had to be obtained from the City in order to install such large signs. Another condition from the City was that the steel structure supporting the letters could not be visible. This required steel tubing to be bent to match the curves of the letters (and not utilize any diagonal bracing back to the structure). The supports cantilevered up from a frame that is bolted to the concrete roof of the building. Radar scanning of the roof was performed in order to avoid cutting through any steel reinforcing.
