Project Details

Project Story

The Arts and Communication Magnet Academy received a new theater building with full-scale rigging systems. As a consultant to Stagecraft Industries, MCE analyzed the anchorage of systems supporting the curtains, scenery, lighting, and electrical equipment hanging above the stage. Some of these systems are mounted on the wall and are stationary, while other systems rely on pulleys and counterweights to move elements during performances.
MCE also provided the supports for a floating 30 by 32 foot truss grid made of box trusses found onsite and reused for lighting support in the rehearsal studio. The grid system is suspended from the building with tension-only cables to keep the look simple. MCE also communicated with the city’s engineer on the client’s behalf in order to ensure that the project met current building codes, in addition to helping our client understand future city requirements.
